    learned Bifhop has given Directions to pre¬ pare it in a very fimple Manner, probably with the Intention that it might be equally ferviceable to the Poor and Rich, yet I think few Reafons can be affign’d, why the Rich may not be fupplied with a more neat and certainly a more efficacious Re¬ medy 5 efpecially, fince the Price, even then, will not much exceed the prefent Rate, as I ffiall endeavour to prove. - *■ % • * Norway Tar, as it is now imported, is unqueftionably the beft for this moft noble Medicine, as being endowed with the moft fragrant and fubtile Parts, beyond other Tars, which is evident by its Smell, and by its Tafte, as being leaft acrimonious; and it ha9 been proved by feveral ingenious Chemifts, that it partakes leaft of that heat¬ ing fulphurous Property, which abounds in all thefe Balfams, either more or lefs. Common Tar, or Tar from hot Climates, is not fo well Saturated with this fine vola¬ tile aromatic Flavour. This, perhaps, in fome Meafure, may be owing to the In¬ fluence of the Sun, which exhales all the fineft Parts, except thofe that are clofely connected, and fupprefs’d by the vifcid Juices of the Trees; whereas in colder Re¬ gions, the Pores of the Trees are more clofe
