Description

Prescription books of William Martindale.

A number of the prescriptions are in fact recipes, including formulae for Sir Joseph Lister for cyanide of mercury and zinc in suspension (e.g. no. 2000), and another for '[Franz] Ziehl's stain for the tubercle bacillus' (no. 2600).

Also included are reports on the analysis of drinking water at Winchelsea and elsewhere by John Attfield, Professor of Practical Chemistry at the Pharmaceutical Society, and by Dr Charles Meymott Tidy (nos. 2438-2439, 2892, 2979, 3035).
