About this work
Description
A Japanese edition of Shenxiang quanbian, a Chinese work on physiognomy attributed to Chen Zhuan and edited, and possibly also compiled, by Yuan Zhongche, a practising physiognomer. This woodblock printed edition was printed from the same blocks as the version published in 1807 by Umemura Ihee of Kyoto, during the meiji period by Nakagawa Jinzaburō of Tokyo. The edition includes a number of line illustrations, and kunten punctuation, glosses and headnotes have been added to the Chinese text by Seki Ryushi and Seki Koan, but this specific copy lacks the first volume and original colophon.
