Description
The same composition was engraved by Pietro Santo Bartoli with lettering "Praedicaverunt ubique Domino cohoperante sermone confirmante sequentibus signis. Mar. 16", i.e. the last sentence of Saint Mark's gospel, describing the preaching of the Apostles after the Ascension of Jesus Christ. The online catalogue of the Teylers Museum identifies the subject as Joshua addressing the Israelites at Shechem (no. A+ 027, bought from the Odescalchi estate in Rome, 1790)
