Ledgers

Comprise account information for hospital transactions, detailing all credits and debits. Volumes contain details of hospital accounts and separate establishment accounts for Crichton Royal Institution and Southern Counties Asylum, until 1884 when the two establishments merged. The number and type of accounts vary over time, reflecting all the financial dealings of the hospital and Board of Directors and Management. Ledgers are arranged in chronological order by date and are indexed by name of account until 1948. There are loose indexes inserted into volumes for years 1948-1951 and a partial index for years 1951-1958. The numbering system has some anomalies, with two volumes numbered No.5 and several volumes are not numbered.
