No. pl £?§Si?¥îl e: Dear Dr. Crick, I am writing to thank you very warmly indeed for the part that you played in making our Oxford Conference such a tremendous success. Your lecture on the Monday evening was the highlight of the Conference, and I am sure you realised at the time how much it was appreciated by all those present, and what a very great deal of interest it created. I know how much you dislike doing things of this kind, and I am also very conscious of the amount of time you must have had to devote to the preparation of such a splendid lecture. I am therefore particularly grateful to you for having agreed to readily to help us on this occasion. It is not easy to measure the success of events of this kind, but we all had the impression that the Conference fulfilled at least some of the purposes we had in mind when arranging it. People from quite different disciplines met and discussed common problems, and we hope that some fruit will be borne in due course. Your lecture was of the greatest interest to all of them.
