About this work
Odysseus is bound to the mast of a boat while glancing towards the sirens on land. The sirens hold a large wreath of red poppies. A colour reproduction of a large-scale painting by Otto Greiner (1902), lost from the Museum der Bildenden Künste, Leipzig, during World War II: allegedly cut from its frame by Russian troops in order to wrap a piano. This kind of respectable soft-core pornography was widely available and avidly collected in Europe
