Biographical note

In 1970-71 the "helper" grade was created to cope with the shortfall of physiotherapists and to cope with the "non-professional" aspects of physiotherapy (dressing, tidying etc.). The position of these helpers was formally established when in 1992 there was a national vote of all CSP members which concluded in favour of membership of helpers. The Helpers board had its first meeting in January 1995. It changed its name to the Assistants Board in December 1995.
