May 1881 awarded an Open Scholarship, Royal Grammar School, Lancaster

Nov 1884 awarded Queen's Prizeman, Royal Grammar School, Lancaster

1883-1886 Annually awarded Form prize in Mathematics and Science

Dec 1884 Gained 1st class honours, distinguished in mathematics in the Cambridge Local Junior Examination.

Jan 1887 awarded 1st Division, University of London, Matriculation

1888-1890 awarded Physics, Botany and Chemistry, South Kensington Science & Art Certificates

Jul 1891 awarded Jacob Bell Scholarship, Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

1892 passed the examinations of the Pharmaceutical Society, gaining several distinctions, also the Pereira Medal and the Redwood Research Scholarship.

May 1893 elected Fellow, Chemical Society

RESEARCH AREAS

medicinal alkaloids, notably hyoscine, hyoscamine, atropine, also jaborandi and its chief alkaloid pilcarpine. Also the chemical constitution of ascara bark, salicyclic compounds, commercial chrysarobin, epinephrine etc.

Published widely, especially 1896-1910 papers to the Chemical Society

Died as a result of a car collision on Gorse Hill, Farningham, Kent. Funeral Service was held at Golders Green Crematorium Aug 14th and a Memorial Service was held at Dartford Parish Church on the same day.
