About this work

Description

Correspondence and papers relating to the GATT / CAP working group. Under the auspices of the National Food Alliance, the working group was set up by the Ecologist magazine's editors Edward Goldsmith and Nick Hilyard. Tim Lang was a member of that working group and had co-written (with Geoffrey Canon) a grant application for the NFA administration, to include the GATT consumer working group, and received a donation/grant from Sir James Goldsmith for £40,000. The GATT consumer project was to be run by Tim Lang and through the NFA. The group or campaign was set up to ensure that environmental, public health, consumer protection, Third World small famers and farm interests were incorporated in the Common Agriculture Policy and the wider GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) reform process.
The file mostly comprises administrative material such as job descriptions for campaign officers and papers re funding application for the campaign.
