Description

Papers relating to Community Health Councils (established by the 1973 reorganisation Act to represent the local community's interests in the health services to those responsible for managing them. Members included voluntary organisations), mainly regarding initial establishment and membership of and differing policies of Regional Health Authorities in advertising for positions, concerns that local voluntary groups will exclude national organisations such as the Patients Association, need for a co-ordinating body for all CHCs.

Includes NHS and DHSS circulars and guidance on CHCs, Patients Association correspondence with or concerning various Regional Health Authorities, and with the National Innovations Centre London about the CHCs and a co-ordinating body, and DHSS consultative paper on the role and membership of Community Health Councils in England, Jan 1981, including comments of the Patients Association.
