Biographical note

In 1931 Council established a Propaganda Committee to consider and report on desirable propaganda which might be undertaken in the interest of members. In 1932 it was constituted as a Standing Committee to deal with all matters in relation to advertising and propaganda.

The Committee was discontinued on the outbreak of war and its work taken over by the Emergency General Purposes Committee. The Propaganda Committee was re-established in 1944, became the Public Relations Committee in 1946, then in 1948, became a sub-committee of the Establishment and General Purposes Committee.

From 1951 to 1971 all advertising and publicity matters were carried out by the Journal and Public Relations Committee. In 1970 the CSP was concerned to improve its public relations activities, and formed a separate Public Relations Committee.

In 1983 it became the Membership Services and Public Relations Committee, taking over from the Finance and General Purposes Committee the responsibility for services to members, and also liaised with Special Interest Groups, Boards and Branches.

Following a review of the CSP's committee structure by the Planning and Resources Committee, it was recommended to Council that, from 9 Sep 1987, the Membership Services and Public Relations Committee be disbanded and its work distributed to other committees, particularly the new Professional Practice Committee.
