Biographical note

The committee was set up, following a proposal by Louis Sambon, in view of occurrence of pellagra in parts of the British Empire and a feeling that there should be an urgent "thorough scientific enquiry" into its etiology. Members of the Committee included many London School of Tropical Medicine staff plus Sir William Leishman, Sir Patrick Manson, the Italian Ambassador and Henry Wellcome.
