Description

19 October, 1912. Copy Agreement between William Cooper & Nephews and Thomas Cash Betteridge, of Berkhamsted. "Betteridge who was for four years or more past has been [sic] in the service of Coopers as Junior Clerk will proceed on the 31st October next by Steamer from Liverpool to Punta Arenas Straits of Magellan, Chili, and there take up faithfully and diligently perform the duties of Clerk and Assistant to Coopers Manager in their Office there, and both while in Cooper's service and afterwards, he will carefully guard and preserve all information and secrets belonging to Coopers or concerning their business from all persons unconnected with the business, and from all persons not entitled to receive the same."

With a copy letter extract (31 May, 1913), referring to an increase in salary to reflect "the greatly increased cost of living in P Arenas", and suggesting that Betteridge spends a few winter months in the offices of Buenos Aires or Montevideo.
