Correspondents include the diplomat Stratford Canning, Viscount Stratford de Redcliffe (1786-1880) (no. 11). There is also a letter to George Rylands in 1842 dismissing mesmerism and dissociating himself from claims that he is a supporter of the idea (no.1a).
