    Pressing Needs. A few years ago the public were warned by those responsible for its administration, of the growing demand - and rightly so—for hospital service, and that greater service would entail, of course, greater expenditure. To the limit of their resources the Committee have endeavoured to meet the demands. Even so, they now find as they did less than ten years ago, when prompted to add the new wing, that the insistence for still more accommodation is as great as ever. There can be no halt called to hospital work : it must go on, with greater vigour than ever. There were and are other pressing needs. A new corridor floor was long overdue. This work is being done, with the provision of a pipe duct for a future scheme of central heating which should displace the present more expensive form of heating in the older parts of the Hospital. Serious consideration has been given to the installation of an electric bed lift to serve the first floor. It was decided that no action should be taken to provide this until a larger scheme was considered, i.e., the building of another Men’s Ward for at least 12 beds. Yet another matter of some moment is the provision of further accommodation for staff. When the Hostel was erected to house 20 nursing staff, the Committee built within their resources, and did not contem¬ plate that within five years the need for extension would arise. But this, as other considerations, have cropped up in the train of developed hospital service. When the time comes for extension to the Hostel, fortunately there is sufficient site space available.
