About this work
Description
Photographs, probably for an article, found in an envelope labelled ' Candidate illustrations - paired for significance and contrast and to match manuscript concepts - "Leprosy Probes the Ethos". The envelope is also labelled 'Skinsnes' presumably referring to Dr Olaf K Skinsnes, pathologist, medical missionary and first person to achieve a cultured leprosy bacillus. Black and white photographs all labelled on back: Boeck and Danielssen, authors of color atlas of leprosy 1877 with picture of title page picture of book illustration showing neural and leprotamous pores of leprosy; Father Damien and spit of land on Molokai (Hawaii) where he worked; Hansen at about the age he discovered M. Leprae and osmic acid stain of leproma; photos of leprosy sufferers, showing progress of leprosy in pre-sulfone era, courtesy of Dr C H Binford and lepromatous regression under sulfone therapy; picture of a [Japanese] man labelled Mitsuda and lepromin reaction.
