About this work

Description

10 letters by Rennie, chiefly autograph and signed but also including 1 in the third person (nos.1-10); also 1 autograph address cut from a letter addressed by Rennie to the civil engineer Thomas Telford (1757-1834) (no.11). Correspondents include the Speaker of the House of Commons (no.1), concerning a dam and weir at Kidbrook, J.T. Briggs of the Victualling Office (no.4), on the subject of the cost of works to be carried out for the Admiralty (a projected dockyard at Northfleet, never built), mentioning Henry Mulgrave, 3rd Baron Mulgrave (later Viscount Normanby and Earl of Mulgrave) (d.1831) and Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville (1742-1811), treasurer to the Navy; no.6 is also signed by one Jos. Jessop (possibly a connection of the civil engineer William Jessop (1745-1814)) and comments in detail on works affecting the River Avon in Bath in connection with the Kennet and Avon Canal.
