    BEPOBT OF MEDICAL OFFICES TO THE POET SANITARY AUTHORITY. “ For the first time for many years I have to report a case of infectious disease on board a barge in the Port of Faversham. On arriving at Faversham, one of the crew was found to be suffering from illness, and removed home. This was afterwards notified to me as typhoid fever. The barge was disinfected, and the water supply thoroughly investigated, and the rest of the crew inspected. No further cases arose, and it is not probable that his illness was contracted on board at all. No other cases of illness and no deaths from any cause whatever occurred in the Port. The foreign trade is cheifiy confined to timber ships from the Baltic Ports, and a few ceasting vessels from the nearer Continental Ports occasionally call. These ships have been found in satisfactory condition, and their crews in good health. The main trade of the port is in barges carrying bricks to London, and returning with breeze and manure; also colliers to and from the North ; these have been regularly inspected. The appointment of one Inspector for the whole district, which has just been made, will, I believe, be conducive to the more efficient carry- ing out of regular inspection.
