Immunology Notebook: 1

Notebook filled by Alan Williams with workings, notes and comments on his Immunology work. Notes relate to affnity labelling of Immunoglobulin receptors on lymphocytes, including the preparation of NIP, Nitrohydroxyiodophenylacetate hapten conjugates and derivatives, antigen binding by cells and activation by light of Nitrohydroxyiodophenylacetate.

The first occasion when Williams aimed to raise antibodies against the lymphocyte membrane surface, perhaps with a view to detecting anti-immunoglobulin components, or perhaps attempting a serological characterisation of unknown membrane molecules. Raising antibodies against cell surface antigens developed into a major thrust of his research.
