Black and white photograph of a pair of obstetrical forceps, type designed by Jan Palfijn or Palfyn Jan Palfyn (1650-1730), Flemish surgeon and obstetrician, in 1720. The design is also known as tire-tête ("pull head"), Le Mains de Palfyn ("the hands of Palfyn") or mains de fer ("iron hands"). The item was previously part of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
