Biographical note

"Beds or Bombs? Where is our sense of priorities?" campaign launched in February 1987. The campaign was an appeal to health care workers which outlined the cost of national spending on nuclear weapons, in order to highlight how this money could be better used for the health service.

The campaign drew attention to the current pressures on the National Health Service, including waiting lists, bed shortages and cancellations. It also emphasised that the NHS would be unable to cope with the casualty impact of nuclear war, and the pressure being placed on Health Authorities to draw up emergency plans in preparation for such an event.
