Biographical note

Dr Rowland Hill was consulting neurologist and physician to the West End Hospital for Nervous Diseases, London.

During the 1939-45 he was a medical specialist in the RAMC serving in Africa. He attained the rank of Major, relinquishing his commission in 1942 and subsequently was deputy regional adviser in medicine in the Emergency Medical Service (EMS). He played an active role in the medico-political discussions concerning the National Health Service and was elected Vice-President of the BMA in 1966 in recognition of his services.
