TO THE RIGHT HON. VISCOUNT MELBOURNE, Secretary for the Home Department, §c. My Lord, The Asiatic Cholera has not entirely disappeared; to act, then, as if it could never resume its diffusive propensity, were a signal instance of fatuous improvidence. On the contrary, all the facts which reason, observation, experiment, and ex- perience have approved, should be collected, and every man, who can add to the stock, ought, without delay, to furnish his contribution. I have devoted, as you know, much time to this investiga- tion. In my progress, I could not avoid adverting to the state of the medical profession, and to the dispositions of the Boards of Health. I request it, however, to be recollected, that in whatever I say, or may have said, it is not persons, but prin- ciples, that are my object. It would be great injustice indeed, to pronounce a universal anathema; among us there are medical men who adorn human nature; on the very question which engages us, not a few have maintained that unoending integrity which is innate in the true cultivators of science.
