File includes: text of Wilkins’ letter to Prime Minister Harold Wilson, Jun 1968, requesting that control of the MRE be transferred from the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Health; Wilkins’ letter to fellow UK scientists; responses supporting his proposal from correspondents including Sir James Grey, Dorothy Hodgkin and Hans Kornberg; responses refusing support, from scientists including Sir Lawrence Bragg, Honor Fell and Sir Alexander Haddow; letter from the office of the Prime Minister to Wilkins, Jul 1968, setting out the reasons for the work of the MRE to remain classified.
