About this work

Description

Correspondence and other papers related to the increasing tensions between the NPWA and LAFC leading up to and following Mr. Joll's death in 1969, including personal attacks and attempts to discredit their organisations on both sides. Blount resigned from the NPWA committee in 1966 and renamed the London Anti Fluoridation Campaign to the National Anti Fluoridation Campaign as a result.

The main dispute regards the breach of an informal agreement between Blount and Joll on their respective campaign area limits, the LAFC being responsible for campaigning in London and Surrey, and the NPWA the rest of the UK, but also includes more personal disagreements over campaign approaches and public credit-taking for the successes of the movement in the UK, particularly between Blount and the new NPWA chairman R. Maitland Earl and NPWA president Lord Douglas, as well as an ongoing dispute regarding an ex-LAFC member who joined the NPWA whom Blount accused of spreading false information and financially manipulating the NPWA against him. An NPWA alliance group was formed to attempt to resolve these divisions but appears to have been unsuccessful, with disputes between Blount and members of the NPWA continuing throughout his life.
