Description
The collection comprises correspondence, notes, reviews and photographs spanning the period 1954-1978; also reprints spanning 1917-1962.
This is not a large collection, with nothing except offprints representing Sir Charles's career before the mid 1950s and only five files of rather miscellaneous interest covering the years 1954-1977. Apparently at the request of Sir Charles all his case notes were destroyed at his death.
The collection of offprints is not complete; however, it seems probable that at least some of the missing items were among the papers printed in Studies in Neurology (London 1970).

These papers were given to the library at Wellcome Collection in 1979 by Sir Charles Symonds's son Mr Ronald Symonds.

Appraisal note
The papers have been kept in the files as they were received, with the substitution of archival quality covers for the originals. The titles on the original files are given in the list in inverted commas. Some anomalies of order within the files have been rectified. Duplicate items have been weeded.
