Description
SEM of human hair cell stereocilia from organ of
Corti in cochlea. Noe links connecting tips of
shorter stereocilia to shafts of taller ones in
next row, thought to detect mechanical movement in
response to sound vibrations by being alternately
stretched & relaxed as hair bundle vibrates,
opening ion channels, thus increasing current.
