GAILLARD THOMAS, M.D., Prof, of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children in the College of Physicians and Sur- geons, New York. It is not certainly known wlietlier the condition whicli we style inversion of tlie uterus, and which, consists in the turning of the uterus inside out, was un- derstood before the time of Ambrose Pare. Since his epoch, it has been fully described by his successors, and all its pathological features, its various symptoms, and its manifold dangers, have been thoroughly appre- ciated. From the time of Par6, however, who lived about the middle of the 17th century, to our own, although great advances were made in the scientific de- partments of the subject, very little was attained in the way of treatment.
