Description

Consists of Kate William's working papers and associated material which she accumulated throughout her career with the National Childbirth Trust.

Includes minutes of meetings, correspondence, training and research notes; papers relating to the Breast Feeding Working Party and St. George's Quality Circle; and printed material published by the National Childbirth Trust and various other organisations including leaflets, newsletters, newspaper clippings and press releases.

The content is mainly focused on the guidance and promotion of breastfeeding but also includes information on cupfeeding, use of breast pumps and child nutrition.

Biographical note

Kate Williams (nee Trotter) initially trained as a state registered dietitian and was a member of the British Dietetic Association. She subsequently retrained and worked as a breastfeeding counsellor with the National Childbirth Trust for six years, qualifying in 1991. In this role she organised training workshops and provided advice and reassurance to mothers with newborns and various health professionals.

As part of the Breast Feeding Working Party, she contributed to the development of the breastfeeding policy at St George's Hospital, London, and was also a member of the Breast Feeding Quality Circle. In addition to her work with the National Childbirth Trust she supported the 'Baby Milk Action' campaign and Joint Breastfeeding Initiative which aimed to promote breastfeeding.
