About this work

Description

1 artwork identified by Rita Simon's pseudonym "Tuberculosis Patient 12 - Mrs Bird" which shows overlaid dabs and patches of paint in black, brown, green and white; almost the whole sheet is filled and the colours are sombre. Rita Simon said: "What was going on to upset her? Life was awful for her. Some nurses were not sympathetic."

The quote above is taken from conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

The title has been supplied by the cataloguer for identification purposes, based on Rita Simon's description of the paint colours as sombre.

The sequence number of the artwork is written on the verso of the painting.

Rita Simon classified the artwork as Massive Transitional.
