HMc proposed (with G. Curzon) an historical session which was accepted by the Programme Committee. However, HMc's illness and then death in September 1992 prevented his participation in the symposium. After his death the structure of the session was altered to convert it in part to a session in his honour and in the honour of Paul Mandel, a distinguished French neurochemist who had also recently died.
