About this work
Description
The first incarnation of Rosen's autobiography was entitled 'Dr Gerald Ogmore' and written c.1970-1971. The title was later changed to 'Along the Way' and developed, redeveloped and re written several times up until his last years 1995-1996 to become a definitive autobiography which by then incorporated parts of his other autobiographical writings, 'One Man's Covenants', 'Coincidence and Creativity' and 'Stories of Sculpture'.
'Along the Way' starts in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1950, and follows the life of 'Gerald Ogmore' a young doctor about to qualify as a psychiatrist. It concentrates particularly on the time he spends at Weskoppies, the most important mental hospital in Pretoria, during which time Ogmore's attitudes to his work and life crystalize.
