I?} the course ot some exjieriments during the past winter, upon the physiological effects of rarefied and compressed air, and rejKirted to the American Climatological Association tn May,1 1 was often struck with the fact that sudden and considerable rarefaction of the air produced not only extreme dyspnoea but also a rapid, irregular, and intermittent pulse in the animals experimented upon. The apjiaratus used by Prof Martin and myself w as the pneumatic cabinet, at present so much employed for the application of rarefied and compressed air to respiratory diseases, and whic h is used somewhat indiscriminately, without proper regard to the possi- ble dan-, er of subjecting patients with cardiac disease to treatment by this method.
