Biographical note

Shrimpton served as a doctor in the French army for 15 years. He spent time in the French forces in Algeria and appears to have been based for a time at Sétif. Subsequently he was surgeon to the English Hospital in Paris, from its foundation onwards. He was the author of Cholera: its seat, nature, and treatment (London: J. Churchill, 1866).
