Biographical note

Project description:Cheltenham Literature Festival created a bespoke series of six events introducing and exploring the  realm of medicine in literature. The events united scientists and writers on stage to discuss their  unique perspectives and the complexities of interaction between these two fields. The programme  made use of a variety of formats, including chaired discussions, debates and performances and an  education project was also created, enabling young people to engage with scientific topics and  themes through creative storytelling. Building on established Literature Festival formats, events  incorporated the opportunity for audience questions and discussion of the issues raised by  participants. The strand included well-known contemporary figures like Ian McEwan and Steven  Pinker. The events were constructed to have broad appeal and inspire a wider constituency to think  in new ways about literature and medicine.
