About this work

Description

Typed transcriptions taken from some of the Cooper notebooks. Notebooks 2 and 8 appear to have been transcribed in full. As with the original notebooks, some entries have been crossed through with pencil or in ink.

An introduction to the typescript includes some details relating to the Cooper family, and the early days of the business.

On pp. 89-90 there is a list of the notebooks, including the volume now missing, and also mention of a further volume recollected by Sir R A Cooper but long since lost.

There are some notes in the volume (mainly by J A Hill) commenting on the accuracy of certain points or adding to them, including a loose sheet in between p. 1 and p. 2 of the introduction.

Loose inside the front cover is a typed table of contents for the volume.

pp. 116 onwards comprise an index to the volume, split into two parts: an index to parts on the manufacturing process; and a second general index. This makes the volume somewhat easier to use than some of the original notebooks.

Topics covered in the volume include the manufacturing process, specific chemicals used such as Arsenic, Sulphur, and Soda, observations on the manufacture & use of products, and some sales figures.

Also included is the original file cover for the notes, indicating that the typed introduction to the volume was by "Messrs Edward & McKillop", and it also gives the names of a few people who have had the volume.
