    REPORT OP THE MEDICAL OFFICER OP HEALTH TO THE LEISTON URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL* Gentlemen, I have the honor to submit the following report on the Sanitary conditions of the District during the year 1900-, according to the Local Government Hoard’s instructions* PUBLIC HEALTH. The Public Health of tile District does not on the surface, compare so favorably this year in the case of notifiable Infectious disease, as with any previous year since the adoption of the Act* The Injections Diseases Notification Act came into force on August 1st 1896, since when the notifioations have beon as follows: 1896.5 nco. 1897 1898 1899 1900 Email Pox - - - - - Cholera - - - Diphtheria Membranous Croup. Erysipelas Scarlet Fever Typhus Enteric Relapsing Fever Continued Fever Puerperal Fever Plague Totals DIPHT’IERIA. T7ith respect to 4 5 4 13 io i this disease we have the same number of cases as last ^ear, but whereas last year they were all of a very mild innocent type* at the close of the present year there was an outbreak In the mture of an epidemic, 6 Cases occurring between December 8th * December Enh,nearly all severe, with two deaths. Five of the Cases were in Children under 10 years of age. This is the commonest age for the disease to occur. T am at a loss to ascribe a cause for this outbreak, other than atmospheric conditic There seems to be a wave of Diphtheria over the Eastern Counties in which we have participated.
