Description

1965-66. Memoranda concerning the termination of an Agreement with Houlder Brothers & Co. With a copy text of the Agreement (1941) between Thomas Swan (SA) Ltd and Houlder Brothers & Co Ltd ("Shipping Agency Arrangements and Standing Instructions"). Attached are historical "Notes" on the working arrangement: "The business of Thomas Swan was started in the eighteen nineties, and for many years before the 1939-45 war had a long association with Coopers as their shipping agents and importers of sulphur. In 1941, the business was bought by Coopers and Thomas Swan (SA) Ltd formed. Because of the bombing of Thomas Swan's London office and othe war time difficulties, the day to day business had to be discontinued. As a consequence, Thomas Swan made an agency agreement with Houlder Brothers & Co who became Cooper's shipping agents."
