Material relating to William Grafton's experiences of mental illness. Comprising 1 file of loose letters and papers, 1905-1939, including three Hackney Carriage Licences, last will and testament of William Grafton, and a list of 'Drs I have been under'; and 17 volumes, 1906-1934, including diaries, notes of conversations with the angel Gabriel, details of early Christian pioneers, events in Harrogate, and the death of his father James Grafton.

Acquired by the library at Wellcome Collection in October 2011.

Biographical note

Born c.1883. Died 1955. Lived in Harrogate and worked occasionally for his father. Suffered from unknown mental illness which resulted in conversations with the Angel Gabriel. He became a residential patient at Menston Mental Hospital in May 1937, where he died in January 1955 aged 72.
