About this work

Description

This series of correspondence is chiefly comprised of letters from friends and close colleagues. Signe Henschen, Dorothee, Gerda and the Calés all feature prominently. Any letters from colleagues in this series tend to be personal in nature rather than research-related. The letters, postcards and other communications offer an insight into who Marthe Vogt was acquainted with and who she was close to. In addition there is quite a bit of correspondence with British authorities, particularly regarding Marthe's status during World War II and immediately afterwards. Marthe's efforts to help other refugees are also evident in these letters. The vast majority of these papers are in German, French and English. There is also the occasional paragraph in Russian.

Arrangement

These papers were originally stored across a number of envelopes and folders, partly filed by date and partly kept in no perceivable order. To facilitate searching by users, they have been amalgated into one series and rearranged according to the year in which they were written. Papers have not been ordered by date within each year due to the amount of time required for this process.
