Minute Book: Board of Directors

Described as 'Minute Book No.1'

The company was known as Cooper McDougall & Robertson (SA) (Pty) Ltd until May 1928.

Minutes of AGMs are also included in this volume.

The board of directors met monthly for the most part, with occasional breaks.

The meetings deal with the administration of the company, directors' emoluments, the payments of bonuses, the performance of the company, the state of the market, and other related matters.

The minutes also contain information on allowances paid to retired employees and their surviving spouses, and on bonus payments etc., but otherwise there is little personal information in the volume.

AE&I Ltd (African Explosives & Industries Ltd) are represented at a number of board meetings.

Details of a disclaimer printed on packets of products are given on p. 20.

A note regarding Power of Attorney at AGMs has been affixed to p. 50.

Notes about the 'danger' to capital caused by the 'general tendency towards Labour & Socialistic Governments' around the world are affixed to p. 74B.

A note of a special all-round reduction in salaries for employees of the company appears on p. 109. The reduction, graduated according to salary level, was caused by 'the depressed state of the farming community and its effect on the business of the company.'

A revised price list appears on p. 132-3, and on p. 196-7.

p. 172 & p. 173 are blank and stuck together.
