About this work

Description

Correspondence and notes concerning the exchange of information between TRC and American companies.

"The suggestion was that Messrs Merck and Squibb on the one hand, and the Therapeutic Research Corporation on the other should not privately send information on penicillin synthesis but that it should all pass through the Medical Research Council. Any such information would be distributed by the Medical Research Council, whether coming from the USA or workers in this country to those university chemists and chemists associated with the pharmaceutical firms who agreed to the working scheme and only to those." Sir Edward Mellanby (MRC) to Dr T B Maxwell (TRC), 10 December, 1943.

Includes "Report of Conference on Penicillin Synthesis" (held at MRC, 27 October, 1943).

15 October, 1943. Letter from R E Gruber (Vice President, Merck & Co) to Dr T B Maxwell (Managing Director, May & Baker): "This is to inform you that Pfizer has been admitted to the [collaborative] program [in which Merck and Squibb have been engaged] under a formal agreement among Merck, Squibb, and Pfizer dated September 30, 1943. By virtue of this agreement, Pfizer is subject to the obligations and is entitled to participate in the benefits of the relationship which has obtained for the past year between Merck and Squibb, on the one hand, and the Therapeutic Research Corporation of Great Britain on the other, including the exchange of technical information."
