About this work
Lectures on the Practice of Physic. Delivered at Edinburgh University. On p. 74 of Vol. I, the lecturer makes a reference, which helps to fix the date of these notes: 'My Father (i.e. John Gregory [1721-1773] who was at that time (about 50 or 60 years ago) a Student at this University.' Produced in Edinburgh.
10 volumes 9 vols. 4to. 251/2 × 19 cm. Original calf bindings, some damaged. Written on the rectos only. The numerals on the spine of Vols. I, III, V and IX appear to have been deliberately defaced.
Purchased 1907 (Vol. I, III, V, IX), 1911 (Vols. II, IV, VI, VII, VIII).
John Gregory entered Edinburgh University as a student in 1741, and went to Leyden in 1745.
A faint pencilled note inside the upper cover of Vol. I appears to read 'From Abernethys Library'. There is no mention of the writer of these notes.
Database description transcribed from S.A.J. Moorat, Catalogue of Western Manuscripts on Medicine and Science in the Wellcome Historical Medical Library (London: Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, 1962-1973).
