Communicated from abroad by Firma Naamlooze Vennootschap-Fabriek van Verbandstoffen, voorkeen Utermohlen & Co., of 99 Weesperzijde Amster¬ dam in the Kingdom of Holland Manufacturers. “ Improvements relating to Antiseptic Bandages ” I, Henry Harris Lake, of the Firm of Haseltine, Lake & Co., Patent Agents, 45 Southampton Buildings, in tlie County of Middlesex, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows:—- This invention relates to an improved antiseptic bandage or binder which 5 is so folded together as to be ready for application without requiring to. be disinfected, for the reason that the part thereof for covering the wound remains sterilized under all conditions even if the bandage or binder should be dropped on the ground or be1 touched with uncleaned hands. This is effected according to this invention by applying the binding material in the manner of a fiat 10 pad of gauze, wadding or the like to the back of which is. sewn or otherwise suitably secured one or more bands or straps folded over the said binding material in such a manner as to completely envelop the same and then suitably folding the band till required for use, when it is only necessary to unfasten the retaining strings and applying it to the wound by holding it by the ends 15 of the binder or strap, which is coiled up at the back. According to one method of constructing an antiseptic bandage embodying this invention, the binding material consists* of a layer or pad of antiseptic wadding, covered with an antiseptic gauze for example, of any convenient form, and to the back of which is or are attached, sav by sewing, one or two strips 20 serving as binders or straps. The bandage according to this* invention is so arranged as to allow of the two binders or straps being first coiled up, 'the sides of the pad being then folded downward. Hereupon the sides are again folded at right angles to the previous fold, also downward, the whole being then secured by a tape or the like wound 25 around the exterior of the folded bandage until the same is required for use, when the tape is first removed and the coiled straps or binders are held between the thumb and forefinger in each hand and pulled to both sides so that the bandage opens by itself. Thus it is impossible for the bandage to become infected before its use. It 30 is only required to be held at the back, and it can be easily and readily applied. Instead of using a separate tape or the like, one of the ends of the binder or strap may be wound round it although this is not so advantageous.
