Biographical note
Lord Moran sat on the Spens Committee which devised the system of merit awards for consultants [see Section C]. He was Chairman of the Awards Committee from Dec 1948 to May 1962. As well as copies of committee papers there are numerous notes on named individuals made by Lord Moran, on his regular visits to the regional hospitals to discuss recommendations for awards.
