About this work

Description

Recipe and account book with ownership inscription of Thomas Brigstocke Humphreys, Portmadoc, 1859.

Publication/Creation

1859-1907

Physical description

1 volume, 1 file

Acquisition note

Purchased from A.R. Heath, Bristol, February 1999.

Biographical note

Humphreys appears later to have relocated to London since some of the ephemera in the volume carry the same name but with an address in Blackheath.

Finding aids

Database description transcribed from Richard Aspin and Christopher Hilton's typescript supplement to S.A.J Moorat's Catalogue of Western Manuscripts.

Ownership note

The book has later been used to accommodate newspaper cuttings (including several relating to members of the Humphreys and Brigstocke families, among them H. Humphreys of Aberystwyth, also a chemist, and various Humphreys in Llanelli) and ephemera. The latter relate to a wide variety of chemists' firms, chiefly in London; these include Corbyn & Co. (see MSS. 5435-5460).
