Wr Mayor cud Gentlemen, In accordance with the suggestions received from the Local Government Board that the Annual Report of the Medioal Officer should he brief, I propose to carry this instruction out so that the records of the district my he preserved and continuous* In common with the country generally, Maidstone waa visited in July and August with a limited outbreak of Influenza, 4 deaths occurring. In the middle of Gotober however until the end of the year \ second and much more virulent and widespread outbreak occurred, causing in all 114 deaths. All ages were attacked hut the greatest incidence was amongst those in the very prime of life nan sly between 2> and 45 years old. Twenty three qales and twenty females between these ages died. The outbreak ceased early in January 1919. The measures adopted to combat the outbreak included the following:^ \ (1) . A circular was prepared by your Medioal Officer of Health calling attention to the personal & general precautions to be carried out to prevent the spread, & the measures to be adopted should any one be suffering from an attack, in order to quickly distribute this information 6000 of these oiroulars were given to the Scholars attending the Public momentary Schools to be taken to their houses.
