About this work

Description

Letter from Wilkins to James Watson, 23 May 1969, objecting to Watson’s draft letter to Science magazine on the DNA research conducted at King’s College London in the early 1950s, with additional photocopy letters to Max Perutz, Aaron Klug, Don Caspar, and Philip Abelson (editor, Science). Also correspondence between Wilkins and Science magazine, 1970, concerning publication of an article (possibly Wilkins, Struther Arnott, Donald Arthur Marvin and Leonard D Hamilton, ‘Some misconceptions on Fourier analysis and Watson-Crick base pairing’, published in Science, vol 167, 27 Mar 1970), in response to an article by Jerry Donohue (‘Fourier analysis and the structure of DNA’, published in Science, 12 Sep 1969). Request, 1970, from The Times obituary department that Wilkins write a preparatory obituary for Watson, and Wilkins’ refusal. Also ephemera relating to Watson: greetings card, 1999, to Wilkins from Ronald Shigeta, Hawaii, signed as ‘Friend of Nobel Laureate James Watson’, and leaflet for Cold Spring Harbor School of Biological Sciences, USA (James Watson was President, 1994-2003). Original file title ‘Science Perutz./Watson/Wilkins letters 1968-1969’.
