About this work
Description
A painting classified by Rita Simon as Linear Transition style made by one of her patients attending a psychiatric day hospital. It depicts a landscape of rolling hills with a deep blue sky and a central circular yellow and orange form, possibly a sun, with a dark brown symbol in the centre. Rita Simon said: "This patient used oils which don't bond with grease-proof paper, hence a bit of flaking from the sky. The red and yellow motif was painted first showing a progression, a dramatic change of mood from the "mad" world, and ending up with quite naturalistic (idealised) hills."
The title is taken from lettering on the reco of the artwork.
The information and quote from Rita Simon are taken from notes made by Wellcome staff during conversations with Rita Simon, 1995-1997.
